Zach Bauchou fired a career-best 9-under 62 in Thursday's opening round at Black Desert Resort to claim a one-shot lead at the Bank of Utah Championship. The Oklahoma State graduate birdied his final two holes, rolling in a 12-foot putt on the par-3 17th and reaching the 602-yard closing par 5 in two shots for a two-putt birdie from 25 feet.

Eight players sit one shot back at 8-under 63, led by Sudarshan Yellamaraju who was the first to post that score. Jordan Smith reached 63 in spectacular fashion, holing a 30-foot birdie putt on the eighth hole before making an albatross from 238 yards on the par-5 ninth. Kevin Streelman and Nick Dunlap also shot 63, with Streelman birdieing six of his last eight holes.

Nick Taylor capped his round with a 50-foot eagle putt to join a group at 64 that included Presidents Cup teammate Christiaan Bezuidenhout and defending champion Michael Brennan. The average score was around 68 on a day of exceptionally low scoring in southern Utah.

Bauchou ranks 86th in the FedExCup standings. Only the top 100 players retain full PGA Tour status for 2027 after the FedExCup Fall concludes in November.
