Ben James shot a final-round 67 to finish tied for fifth at 21-under par at the Bank of Utah Championship, four shots behind winner Austin Smotherman. The result marked his fourth top-five finish in his last six starts and third consecutive, following a third-place showing at the Wyndham Championship and runner-up at the Biltmore Championship Asheville.

James struggled early in Sunday's round, not recording his first birdie until the par-5 seventh hole. He added birdies on holes 8, 10, and 14 but missed several short birdie opportunities on the back nine, including three putts of eight feet or less that he described as being halfway in the hole.

The 23-year-old University of Virginia graduate has missed just one cut this season in 10 starts since turning professional and earning his PGA Tour card through PGA Tour University rankings. He has recorded six top-25 finishes including a tie for 23rd at the U.S. Open.

James credited his recent success to consistent ball-striking and distance control, noting he hit all 14 fairways in the final round and reached most pins at the correct yardage. He plans to take next week off before playing the remaining FedExCup Fall events through November.
