David Howard, a Cork amateur, booked a place in the 154th Open at Royal Birkdale after years of managing cystic fibrosis. He said the condition led to frequent hospital stays and IV antibiotics during his youth.

Howard said daily medication has improved his life since 2019. He credited his coach Kevin Morris, medical staff in Cork, a physiotherapist, a psychologist and his parents, who have helped raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.
