Morikawa said early comparisons to Woods meant he was doing something right, but he cared about them too much and pushed himself when results dipped. He said a few bad tournaments made him feel he had to do more.
The comparison followed Morikawa's 2021 WGC-Workday Championship win at age 24, after his PGA Championship victory. He became the second player after Woods to win a major and a World Golf Championship before turning 25.
