The United States overturned a three-point deficit on Sunday to win the Presidents Cup 17–13 at Medinah Country Club. The Americans took nine of the 12 singles matches and halved another, turning a 10½–7½ overnight disadvantage into a four-point victory. The result extended their winning streak in the competition to 11 editions.
Jacob Bridgeman secured the decisive point against Min Woo Lee. One down with three holes remaining, he recovered to win 1 up, making a short par putt on the final hole to take the United States to the 15½ points required for victory. The remaining matches then settled the final margin.
Jackson Koivun also reversed a losing position against Si Woo Kim. The 21-year-old trailed by two holes after the 10th but won three successive holes and completed a 2-up victory. Collin Morikawa produced another important turnaround, while Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, Justin Thomas and Chris Gotterup contributed singles wins.
International captain Geoff Ogilvy’s side had controlled much of the first three days, but several close matches swung towards the hosts on the closing holes. Patrick Cantlay added pressure with a long birdie putt at the 16th against Adam Scott. U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker’s team ultimately collected 9½ of the 12 points available on Sunday, leaving the Internationals with 2½.
The Internationals remain without a victory since Royal Melbourne in 1998; the 2003 contest finished tied. The next opportunity comes at Kingston Heath in Australia in 2028, after a Medinah defeat decided by the Americans’ stronger singles finish.
