Scottie Scheffler expressed frustration with reports suggesting internal divisions within the U.S. team room and stories about Patrick Cantlay refusing to wear his hat during the 2023 Ryder Cup. Scheffler called these reports stupid rumors that are not true and said such narratives have been frustrating for American players.

Despite his dominant stroke-play performance, Scheffler struggles in team match-play formats with a 3-5-1 record in two Presidents Cups and 3-6-3 overall at the Ryder Cup. He holds particularly poor foursomes records of 1-3-1 and 0-4-0 respectively. Scheffler acknowledged his hypercompetitive nature might work against him in team formats, noting the additional pressure of not wanting to let down a teammate.

U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker confirmed the challenge of finding suitable partners for Scheffler, explaining that players may feel intimidated about potentially disappointing the world's best golfer. Since 2023, Scheffler has been paired with seven different teammates with mixed results. He drew comparisons to Tiger Woods, who also experienced contrasting success between individual and team competitions.
