Arizona State men's golf announced Tuesday that James Hahn has joined the program as a full-time assistant coach, bringing significant playing experience to coach Matt Thurmond's staff.

Hahn competed collegiately at California from 2000 to 2002 before turning professional. During his PGA Tour career, he recorded two victories across 291 tournament starts and accumulated nearly $13 million in career earnings.

The new assistant coach expressed enthusiasm about joining the Sun Devils program, stating he is excited to be part of one of the elite powerhouses in collegiate golf and looks forward to sharing knowledge from his professional career to help develop players both on and off the course.

Hahn replaces Thomas Sutton on Thurmond's coaching staff. Sutton departed this summer to accept the head coaching position at Washington, creating the opening that Hahn now fills.

Head coach Matt Thurmond praised the hiring and described Hahn as a world-class golfer and person. Thurmond noted that Hahn brings highly relevant experience and expects player development to surge under his coaching, emphasizing that Hahn has competed at the level where current players aspire to reach.

Thurmond indicated he wants Hahn to actively participate in team practices and play alongside the players as much as possible. The head coach also made a lighthearted reference to having Hahn potentially coach the team on dance moves.

The coaching addition comes as Arizona State continues a strong start to the season. The Sun Devils captured the Fighting Illini Invitational this past weekend at Olympia Fields after opening their campaign with a tie for sixth place at Sahalee.
