Spieth shot five under at TPC Southwind after entering the FedExCup Playoffs ranked 54th. He needs to climb into the top 50 to advance to the BMW Championship.
Spieth has now completed nine consecutive rounds at 70 or better. His opening round included a par save after his drive on the third hole finished near portable toilets.
