Preston Stout misses U.S. Amateur match play after finishing stroke play at six over.

Stout followed an opening 75 at Merion with a 71 at Philadelphia Country Club. The world's top-ranked amateur made his first birdie on his 28th hole and finished well outside the projected one-over cut line.

Tyler Watts shot a second-round 65 to take the clubhouse lead at six under. Watts and Miles Russell combined to finish nine under through 36 holes.
