Hossler began the Wyndham Championship ranked 122nd but moved to a projected 52nd after taking the first-round lead. The top 70 players advance to next week's FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Davis Thompson shot 64 and climbed from 81st to a projected 72nd. Jackson Koivun opened with a 67 and slipped from 70th to a projected 71st.
