Johnson birdied his first three holes and all five par fives at the Els Club Vilamoura. His opening 64 put him atop the leaderboard after the first PGA Tour Champions round staged in Portugal.
Johnson has won three PGA Tour Champions events since turning 50 in February, including the Kaulig Companies Championship.
