Miles Russell earns Western Amateur medalist honors and makes amateur golf history.

Russell shot 64 and 65 during Thursday's 36 holes at Beverly Country Club, finishing the 72-hole stroke-play stage at 21-under 263. He beat Josiah Gilbert by one stroke and earned the top seed for match play.

The 17-year-old became the first golfer to earn medalist honors at the U.S. Junior Amateur and Western Amateur in the same year.
