Lucas Herbert ties The Open's nine-hole record with a front-nine 28.

Herbert made six birdies on Royal Birkdale's front nine Friday, moving from level par to six under and taking the second-round lead.

His six-under 28 matched Denis Durnian's 1983 Open record, also set on Royal Birkdale's par-34 front nine. Herbert then added birdies at the 11th and 12th holes to reach eight under.
