Nigel Edwards says money is pushing aspiring golfers out of the game.

England Golf performance director Nigel Edwards said amateur and aspiring professional players are giving up golf every week because they cannot afford to keep chasing elite competition. He said some players stop after years of trying without reaching the level they need.

Edwards spoke after England Golf launched a Professional Development Programme in late June. The program is designed to give the country's top young players more competitive opportunities as they try to move toward professional golf.
