Eric Cole shoots 63 at the John Deere Classic after switching irons mid-tournament.

Cole opened the John Deere Classic with a 76, then put a new PXG iron set in play Friday and shot 8-under 63 at TPC Deere Run. He said the replacement set was overnighted after he bent one of his irons.

His Friday round included birdies on his first two holes, more birdies at Nos. 6, 8, 10 and 14, and an eagle at the 17th. Cole said he had never before used a new iron set during a tournament.
